Privacy Policy
We believe privacy is a right, not a feature. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you stay in control.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly when you create an account, update your profile, submit predictions, or contact us. This includes your name, email address, profile photo, and phone number (if you sign up via phone).
When you use Terrace, we automatically collect certain technical information including your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URLs, pages visited, and timestamps of activity. This data helps us operate and improve the Service.
If you sign in using a third-party provider such as Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information from that provider in accordance with their privacy policies and your permissions. We do not store your third-party passwords.
We may also collect information about how you interact with communities — such as communities you join or create, predictions you submit, and leaderboard positions — to power the core features of the platform.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to operate, maintain, and improve Terrace — including processing predictions, calculating scores, maintaining leaderboards, and delivering community features.
Your email address is used to send account-related communications such as security alerts, password resets, and important service updates. We will not send you marketing emails without your explicit opt-in.
We use aggregated, anonymised data to understand how people use Terrace, identify issues, and prioritise improvements. This data cannot be used to identify you individually.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data to serve you targeted advertising from third parties.
Information Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. Full stop.
We may share limited information with trusted service providers who assist us in operating the platform — such as cloud hosting providers and transactional email services. These providers are contractually bound to use your data only to provide services to us, and not for their own purposes.
Your display name, avatar, and public prediction stats are visible to other members within communities you join. Community admins can see the list of their members. Your email address and phone number are never exposed to other users.
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Terrace, our users, or the public.
Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes.
Prediction history and leaderboard data may be retained in anonymised or aggregated form after account deletion for the purpose of maintaining the historical integrity of community records.
You can request deletion of your account at any time from your profile settings page, or by emailing us at [email protected].
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal data under laws such as the UK GDPR, EU GDPR, or CCPA. These may include the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your data, and the right to data portability.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at [email protected]. We will respond to all legitimate requests within 30 days.
If you believe we have processed your data unlawfully, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
We will never discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
Security
We take the security of your data seriously. Terrace uses industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) for all data exchanged between your browser and our servers. Passwords are hashed using a strong one-way algorithm and are never stored in plain text.
Access to personal data within our team is restricted to those who need it to operate and support the Service. We conduct periodic reviews of our security practices.
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach that affects your rights or freedoms, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
If you discover a security vulnerability, please disclose it responsibly by emailing [email protected]. We appreciate responsible disclosure and will respond promptly.
Children's Privacy
Terrace is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take immediate steps to delete that information and terminate the associated account.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at [email protected] and we will act promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal obligations. When we make changes, we will update the "Effective" date at the top of this page.
For material changes — such as new ways of collecting or using your data — we will provide prominent notice within the platform or send you an email before the changes take effect.
We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of Terrace after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
